I have a handful of finishing techniques in my pocket but nothing satisfies me more than rubbing in a drying oil as a first coat. I’ll spray on a few coats of lacquer for more protection after this dries. After making a few test pieces with different shellacs, oils, and polys, I decided to go with Teak Oil for it’s dark color. It really accentuated the curls in this maple without overdoing it. The client wanted a light finish.
